Posthumous Post
During my travels to China, Japan, and South Korea, I was struck by the breathtaking beauty of the pine trees and forests. These trees, deeply loved and treasured, left me with an unforgettable impression of their majesty, grandeur, and the beauty of their individual uniqueness. The pine tree, a symbol of longevity, integrity, self-discipline, virtue, honour, strength, and wisdom, is a source of inspiration. It is often featured in poetry, paintings, and used as decorative motifs for clothing and a variety of objects. Valued as an ornamental plant, it often graces the ancient imperial palace gardens, religious grounds, public parks, and private gardens of many wealthy homes.
Please enjoy my painting 《Idyllic Pine Forest with Ripping Stream surrounded by Snow-Capped Mountains 》. It is unique in that it is a Chinese ink-coloured brush painting executed on canvas instead of paper or silk.
Tan It Koon
Before retirement, Dr Tan It Koon was, among many appointments, Head of Clinical Biochemistry at SGH’s Dept of Pathology. He was the Deputy Chairman of the National Theatre Trust and Chairman for Grants and Scholarships of the Spore Cultural Foundation. He received the National Day Awards, PBM, and PPA, for his contribution to cultural and community development and excellence in Public Administration.
