Posthumous Post
Qingtian (literally means ‘’green ricefield‘’) is a county in southeastern Zhejiang Province in China well known for its coloured stones, which have been used for carving sculptures since ancient times. During the early 1970s, there was a gallery in the Changi area which specialised in the sales of Qingtian stone sculptures. The gallery was owned by a Nanyang University graduate, Mr Sun Qingshui, and was known as Loong Hua Gallery. It subsequently moved to Orchard Point and then to the Paragon Building.
Another Nanyang University graduate, Mr Xie Shenyuan, owned a gallery known for Chinese Shousan stone sculptures from Fuzhou in Fujian Province. The gallery was at Orchard Point and later relocated to Paragon Shopping Centre. Both also expanded their artwork to include paintings.
Please enjoy two Qingtian stone sculptures I acquired some years ago.
Two egg-shell thin porcelain vases in hexagonal baluster form, decorated with Guilin mountains and river paintings in one and red plum blossoms in the other.
