Let me introduce Guan Zeju, a famous Chinese painter who was a child prodigy and has become an expert in realism-style paintings. His series of works on ballet dancers is most distinctive and endearing. In these paintings, one can feel the gorgeous quality and elegance of ballet, as well as the gentle and delicate temperament of the female dancers in the paintings. In addition, Guan Zeju’s handling of light and shadow is also truly unique.
Guan was born in Yangjiang County, Guangdong Province, China, in 1941; he was a senior painter of the Guangzhou Academy of Painting, a member of the China Artists Association, and a director of the Guangdong Branch of the China Artists Association. He also served as the Dy Secretary General of the Oil Painting Research Association. After immigrating to the US, he became an artist for an American gallery and a member of the American Portrait Artists Association. His paintings have been exhibited and acquired by art lovers in many countries. In 1997, his works were exhibited for the first time at the International Art Exhibition at the World Trade Centre in Singapore. They were popular with collectors.
Tan It Koon
Before retirement, Dr Tan It Koon was, among many appointments, Head of Clinical Biochemistry at SGH’s Dept of Pathology. He was the Deputy Chairman of the National Theatre Trust and Chairman for Grants and Scholarships of the Spore Cultural Foundation. He received the National Day Awards, PBM, and PPA, for his contribution to cultural and community development and excellence in Public Administration.
