Years ago, Hollywood made a fantasy movie, “Planet of the Apes.” But have you ever heard of dogs replacing humans in the world? Dog lovers must find it funny, amusing, and delightful to see this series of paintings featuring dogs engaged in various human activities! They are the creative efforts of Cassius Marcellus Coolidge (Sept 18, 1844 – Jan 13, 1934), an American artist mainly known for his series of paintings, “Dogs Playing Poker.” Known as “Cash” or “Kash” in his family, he often signed his work in the 19th century with the latter spelling, for comic effect, as Kash Koolidge.
In these paintings, he featured different breeds of dogs playing poker and other card games, playing Snooker, playing rugby, attending a prosecution courtroom proceeding in a dancing ballroom, enjoying fine dining with napkins at a table in a cozy dining room, and even playing duet piece at the piano.
