For a change, let me introduce a different art form: Laced Paper Cut. Artists of this amazing art form hand-cut paper to mimic the delicate effect of lace.
Ukrainian paper artist Eugenia Zoloto, who lives near Kyiv, cuts intricate, lace-like designs from one sheet of paper until the entire surface is perforated with tiny geometric holes. In doing so, she mimics the ornate patterns of insects and butterfly wings. Her intricate laced paper cuts are stunning – a craft she picked up just five years ago. The central theme of her artwork is the inner world of people and nature, which she believes has a significant influence on people’s lives. Her intricate cuts primarily focus on flowers, insects, birds, animals, and delicate lace dresses.
All her works are done by hand and inspired by nature, dreams, people, shapes, images, and all kinds of art. The paper can be plain and laced or sculpted in 2D or 3D. Please enjoy some examples of her works.
Tan It Koon
Before retirement, Dr Tan It Koon was, among many appointments, Head of Clinical Biochemistry at SGH’s Dept of Pathology. He was the Deputy Chairman of the National Theatre Trust and Chairman for Grants and Scholarships of the Spore Cultural Foundation. He received the National Day Awards, PBM, and PPA, for his contribution to cultural and community development and excellence in Public Administration.
